In the photos are Capt. John McNeil (l) and Capt. Rick Morse (r) Canadian Rangers, Third Patrol Group. The meeting was held in Cpl. Francis Pegahmagabow building at base Borden. Pegahmagabow is quite famous for his heroism during WWI and is widely held to be the subject of Joseph Boyden's "Three Day Road" and is a mythical character in Boyden's "Through Black Spruce'. Each of these books contains great insight into the far north in addition to Oji-Cree spirituality - highly recommend reading for anyone interested in insights into belief system and the harsh cruelty of the north land - as well as its chilling beauty. The real Pegahmagabow story is very much a Cdn. Irah Hayes story..... from hero, to unappreciated Native. His date of birth was March 9, 1891 and he passed away on the Parry Island reserve on August 5, 1952 at the age of 61.
