On May 15th, 2013, Lloyd Fournier, founder of Thunderbird Rising, received a Humanitarian Award from the City of Brampton. This is an extraordinary tribute for his work so far, and an important step in the recognition of the pervasive lack of basic resources and education that children living on Reserves across Canada face.

On receiving the award, Lloyd's response was surprising, “ It is always nice to be recognized and I thank you...miigwetch. And I congratulate the Mayor and City government for being the first time any level of government has recognized the problem. You see, by recognizing my achievement you are also recognizing the problem.”

Congratulation to Lloyd Fournier, and to everyone who has put their time, effort and care into this great cause. This award is a small tribute to your generous contribution of time and goods.

Well done Lloyd!...I agree totally as to your purpose in life ..I, like my friend, am a teacher and regret never having experience in teaching on a reserve. I did stay overnight on a reserve in Chapleau, ON. It was a well run reserve.......I was so impressed....You appear to be very proud of your heritage and so it should be.

Just discovered your blog. Looks like you are really committed and caring. But checking out this site, the first thing to strike me on the first two page links I looked at ('About' and 'News') was "...first time any level of government has recognized the problem".

Really?
